[]Immediately, you wouldn’t necessarily think about strapping on your ski boots entering Gran Baita spa hotel, the cosy cedar-cladded walls, tartan furnishings and its resident pianist makes this alpine atmosphere one to truly relax in. Inside, the scenes are warm and inviting; think of high apex roofs, crackling fires and in-room saunas with large windows that frame the views of the snow-covered Alps.

[]Nestled in the newly developed Aosta Valley, Gran Baita perfectly combines feelings of elegance and warmth. Though of course, we visited for the Alps and for a taste of Courmayeur cuisine.
[]Nestled amidst the towering peaks of Europe, including Mont Blanc, the Aosta Valley stands as a winter sports haven. This enchanting region — the smallest in Italy — boasts some of the best pistes on the planet, no wonder it allures a diverse array of visitors. From seasoned professionals carving up black pistes and tackling daring freerides, to families and novices enjoying the ski schools and gentle beginner slopes (of which, I became very familiar with, having disgraced my skiing poise). The valley’s varied terrain and impeccable scenery draws enthusiasts back, promising an unforgettable adventure for all levels of skiers.
[]Courmayeur as a resort is known for its local alpine dishes and it’s renowned as a gourmet hotspot too, being home to a range of festivals including Peak of Taste and Gourmet Ski, which draws in an impressive line-up of Michelin starred chefs every year.
[]Staying local, dine in Gran Biata’s La Sapinière, where you can expect dishes such as seared deer ribs with blueberry jam, fresh tagliatelle with boar ragu and braised suckling pig belly with a local Torrette wine reduction. But when you eventually head towards the slopes (ski boots on, now) you’ll find a local hotspot called La Chaumière. Place your helmets and gloves inside wicker baskets that are hoisted to the ceiling and enjoy the French-Italia pop and nu-disco style playlist while sipping on a spritz, Aperitivo-style.
